Privacy Policy
Last updated 18 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data Faermire Studios collects when you visit this website, join the SUNSTEEL beta list or take part in a SUNSTEEL beta test, what we do with it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can and we never sell it.
1. Who we are
Faermire Studios (“we”, “us”) makes SUNSTEEL and runs this website. We are the controller of the personal data described here.
Postal address: 1209 Mountain Road Pl NE, Ste N, Albuquerque, NM 87110, USA
Email: privacy@faermire.com
Write to us at either address about anything in this policy, including to use any of your rights.
2. What we collect
When you join the beta list
- Your email address.
- A record of your consent: when you signed up, which form you used, the wording you agreed to, and when you confirmed your address.
- How you interact with our emails, such as whether an email was delivered, opened or a link was clicked. Our email provider records this automatically; it helps us keep the list healthy and stop emailing people who never read it.
When you visit this website
- Technical data that any web server receives, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. Our host uses it to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. We don’t use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
When you take part in a beta test
- Account details: your username, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash). If you sign in with a platform account such as Steam, Apple, Google or Xbox, we receive that platform’s account ID and, depending on the platform, your display name. We never receive your platform password.
- Gameplay data: your characters, appearance, inventory, progress, trades, clan membership and other actions in the game world.
- Communications: in-game chat, player reports, and any feedback, bug reports or survey answers you send us.
- Technical data: your IP address, device and platform type, game version, session times, connection quality, and crash and performance reports.
We don’t ask for, and you should not send us, sensitive information such as health data, government ID numbers or payment card details.
3. Why we use it, and our legal basis
Where the UK or EU GDPR applies, we must have a legal basis for each use.
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Emailing beta invites, test dates and SUNSTEEL news | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
| Choosing beta testers and running the beta test | Performing our agreement with you (the beta test terms) |
| Keeping the game, site and players safe: preventing cheating, fraud, spam and attacks, and enforcing the rules, including reviewing chat and reports | Our legitimate interest in a fair and secure game |
| Fixing bugs and improving the game from crash reports, performance data and feedback | Our legitimate interest in making the game work well |
| Keeping records of consent and unsubscribes, answering legal requests, and defending legal claims | Legal obligation and our legitimate interests |
We don’t make decisions about you using only automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects. Automatic anti-cheat checks can flag an account, but a person reviews any permanent ban.
4. Who we share it with
We don’t sell your personal data, and we don’t share it for targeted or cross-context behavioural advertising. We only share it with:
- Service providers who process it for us under contract: Klaviyo (beta list and emails), Cloudflare (website hosting and security), and our game server and database hosts. They may only use it to provide their service to us.
- Platforms you choose to sign in with, such as Steam, Apple, Google or Xbox, under their own privacy policies.
- Other players, who see your username, appearance, in-game actions and the chat you send while playing.
- Authorities or others when the law requires it, or when needed to protect the rights, property or safety of our players, us or others.
- A successor business, if Faermire Studios or SUNSTEEL is sold, merged or reorganised. They would have to honour this policy.
5. International transfers
Our providers may store or process data in the United States and other countries outside where you live. When we transfer personal data out of the UK, EU or EEA, we rely on safeguards the law recognises, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK addendum to them, or a provider’s certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension.
6. How long we keep it
- Beta list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. After that, we keep only your email address on a suppression list, so we never email you again by mistake, and the consent record for as long as we may need to show we had permission.
- Unconfirmed sign-ups: deleted if the address is never confirmed.
- Accounts: your account and login stay between server wipes and test phases, and carry into the full game, until you ask us to delete them.
- Gameplay data: characters, items, bases and other progress are wiped at the end of each server cycle (currently every 14 days) and between test phases.
- Chat, reports and security logs: only as long as we need them to keep the game safe and handle reports. Any data tied to a cheating or abuse investigation is kept until that matter is closed.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- correct data that is wrong or incomplete;
- delete your data;
- restrict or object to how we use it, including any use based on our legitimate interests;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- withdraw your consent at any time, which doesn’t affect anything we did before you withdrew it; and
- complain to your data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office; in the EU, the authority in the country where you live.
California and other US states
If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law, such as California, you have the right to know what personal data we collect, use and disclose; to access, correct and delete it; and to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising. We don’t sell or share personal data in that way, so there is nothing to opt out of, and we treat browser Global Privacy Control signals as an opt-out anyway. We won’t treat you differently for using any of these rights.
How to use your rights
Email privacy@faermire.com. To unsubscribe from the beta list, use the link at the bottom of any of our emails. We may need to confirm it’s really you before acting on a request, usually by replying from the email address we hold. You can use an authorised agent; we may ask for proof that they act for you. We’ll answer within 30 days. If the law gives us longer and we need it, we’ll tell you why.
8. Cookies and tracking
This website doesn’t use cookies or other tracking technology. The sign-up form sends your email address straight to our email provider and loads no tracking scripts. The trailer plays in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, and YouTube only receives data once you press play. Our emails contain standard links and a pixel that tell our email provider when an email is opened or a link is clicked.
9. Security
We protect personal data with encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access limited to the people who need it, and providers with strong security records. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach puts your rights at risk, we’ll tell you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
10. Children
The beta list and beta tests are only for people aged 16 or older. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you think a child has given us their details, email privacy@faermire.com and we’ll delete them.
11. Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy when our practices change and update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use data you’ve already given us, we’ll email you before it takes effect.
